Overview
MapServer OSX is a Mac OS X port of the Open Source MapServer software, distributed in the easy-to-install Mac OS X package installer format. The development of this software package was sponsored by the IW:LEARN (International Waters : Learning Exchange And Resource Network) organization as a contribution to the Open Source MapServer community.

The following is a complete description of the MapServer software from the MapServer website:

"MapServer is an OpenSource development environment for building spatially enabled Internet applications. The software builds upon other popular OpenSource or freeware systems like Shapelib, FreeType, Proj.4, libTIFF, Perl and others. MapServer will run where most commercial systems won't or can't, on Linux/Apache platforms. MapServer is known to compile on most UNIXes and will run under Windows NT/98/95."

MapServer OSX includes the following components:

	MapServer Installer The MapServer Installer package provides a simple way to install the MapServer software distribution onto your Mac OS X system.
	PHP/MapScript The PHP/MapScript PHP extension is included. The PHP/MapScript module allows PHP applications to access the MapServer C API's. PHP/MapScript is only compatible with the CGI PHP application, for which the latest release is also included.
	Perl MapScript MapServer OSX also includes the Perl MapScript module. This module allows Perl applications to access the MapServer C API's.
	PostgreSQL 7.2.4 With PostGIS 0.7.3 PostgreSQL 7.2.4 with PostGIS 0.7.3 is included with the MapServer OSX software distribution for applications requiring GIS (Geographic Information System) capabilities.
	MapServer Demo MapServer OSX includes the itasca 3.5 demo application. This application demonstrates the capabilities of the MapServer software.
